Yorkshire Gig Guide

Iconic and influential blues man Wilko Johnson comes to Shildon Civic Hall on
Friday the 10th of September, one of only two concerts in the North East this year.
Wilko has his own unique style, coupling a choppy guitar approach with a novel dress sense, his favoured black suit and signature jerky movements.
Johnson's unique, highly percussive playing  minus a pick in his right hand, unleashes his unique powerful rhythmic guitaring with simultaneous riffs and solos. Wilko is naturally left-handed, but plays guitar right-handed and his style  includes abrupt movement on stage with his shuddering strutting movements producing electrifying not to be missed performances and a cult following from his early days in Dr Feelgood, Dury and the Blockheads to the present in his own Wilko Johnson Band.
Wilko is widely recognised as one of the best guitarists in the world and a founder member and songwriter for Doctor Feelgood and is the star of the brand new Julian Temple movie "Oil City Confidential" which tells the story of the pub rock blues scene in the seventies, and is the follow up to the Joe strummer movie the future is unwritten.
‘Oil City Confidential’ has just won a MOJO award for best rock film and is
released worldwide on DVD on July 26th. Wilko’s influence and innovation laid the ground and inspired such bands as The Clash, Blondie, and Boomtown Rats.
Wilko’s band feature Dylan Howe on drums and Norman Watt Roy on bass (Ian Dury and the blockheads) Watt Roy has also done sessions for The Clash, Madness ,Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello to name a few.
